Hi George,

I hadn't heard anything about lady slippers being endangered but I had heard that, at least here in Massachusetts, they are "protected." Also, I found a web site that gives an excellent, in depth explanation of the status of pink lady slippers.

Here is the web site address:

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nh/state/main/lslipper.html

Apparently, they don't do well "Cut, they don't hold up well and transplanted they have little chance of making it."

Hope this helps and thanks for visiting my site!

Hi we have several lady slippers in our yard.
and I was wondering if you can dig them up and transplant them.
And someone told us that they were endangered.
Is this true

ratedxtin, wrjones, I never thought about this before, but I must agree, it looks EXACTLY like a heart. Interesting!

montucky, Thank you! Now, I'm kind of wondering if the Lady's Slipper that you're talking about is called a Showy Lady's Slipper. We're supposed to have those around here, too, but I've not seen one. I hope you find one to photograph one day this summer.

Ann, Thanks for stopping by! And, thank you, too, for the compliment. I checked out your sight too and enjoyed it very much. I'll be back!

Hello Janet!

I noticed someone came to my site from here - and so I clicked over...

Your lady slipper has some similarities to Calypso Orchid or Fairy Slipper that is a favorite of mine. Your capture of the Lady Slipper is wonderful! I enjoyed browsing your blog and your other photos as well.

It looks like a heart to me as well, Janet. What bright greens behind it.

What a beautiful flower! You did a great job with the photos too! Very Nice!

There's one out here that's also called a Lady's slipper and it is somewhat similar but the main body is white. I'll be looking for them this summer too.
