Well, I guess I have myself to blame. I just filled the suet feeder with a fresh suet cake for the birds then placed the plastic container on the edge of the counter, next to the sink. I had planned to finish dinner first and wash the pots and pans then I’d wash the suet container before putting it in the recycle bin when this brazen little fellow decided he just couldn’t resist the smell of peanuts and suet!
(Sorry, the photos are a little blurred cause my kitchen is just not bright enough and I just plain couldn’t hold the camera still enough!)
As “cute” as he is, the “eviction” notice has just been served! Tonight, the little devil will be “relocated!”

It looks like you’ve got the cart before the horse, or the mouse before the moose as it were. You’re supposed to get outside and see the critters, not the other way around!
That was so funny Janet – his eyes are so large is he is deer mouse? You can sure tell you live rural I don’t see many of these little guys coming in my house…now the horse barn that’s another story! I think we have a hearty family in there….
montucky, Darn it! I knew I was doing it wrong, I always get things backward!
aullori has suggested that this is a deer mouse and not a house mouse … she’s right, of course. And this little bugger seems to think he’s one of the family now!
aullori, You are absolutely right! I looked it up and this is a deer mouse … my field guide says “Feeds on seeds, nuts, acorns, insects; stores food.” Hmm! This explains the acorns I found in my winter boots last November! The field guide also says “Summer population of 10-15 per acre … ” Uh-oh! Looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me!
My neighbor has a riding barn and two horse barns … I wonder if he’d like a little mouse family?!
(Just kidding, I wouldn’t do that. But I think that Bradley Palmer will be getting some additions to the wildlife there!)
Don’t put him outside. He will get fleas.
I’ll give him a flea collar!
LOL What a cute mouse!!! Neat that you got to catch it in the act. I have had what was left after the mouse was out of sight and no photos of the mouse. Were you able to capture it and relocate it?
Anna, You know? I swear that little devil knows exactly what I said cause he hasn’t been back since. But I’m a determined sort … especially since I’m not all that fond of the little devil sharing my kitchen! I SHALL PREVAIL!
