No, I don’t mean the states of North and South Carolina. I mean a pair of Carolina Wrens who found a sunny spot on a step ladder that I keep on my rear deck. This shot was, as I call it, a “grab” shot taken as my mother and I were leaving for her radiation therapy. I took these photos through two panes of glass, one in the rear door and the other in the storm door. So, again, I must apologize for the poor quality.
This is the morning after our first Nor’easter for this season. Pretty clever pair! I thought they were so cute!

They are really cute! Just little balls of fluff! One of the finches who dines on the sunflower seeds I spread under our woodpile shelter the other morning was like that; just a round ball of feathers.
Oooh Janet. This is the first time I have logged onto your blog. It is a breath of fresh air!!!
To montucky,
I was so surprised to see just how close to my home these little “folks” got and, how fearless they were even when I was photographing them. They flitted about a little but, for the most part, they stood their ground!
We are, of course, having mid-winter like weather even though it is still “officially” Fall. These wrens are, obviously, quite cold so, when a warm spot is found, it’s not about to be relinquished easily!
To lbtowers,
Thank you for your comment and your complement! I’m giving it my best shot to make more entries so, I hope that you will come back often!
a wren… very cool. The first year I moved into this house a little group of guys built a nest under a larger rock and I visited them everyday. A whole tiny bird family was living just under a rock. Looking back… they were probably rock wrens. Now I know what family they are in anyway. I think your first shot is great!
aullori,
Isn’t it fun to watch little bird families grow up? One feels like a proud parent when they successfully fledge.
By the way, I had to look up Rock Wrens, we don’t have those here in the east.
Beautiful bird photo. Try drawing the birds.
I plan to! I also love the airbrush, I suppose because of my graphic arts background, so I’m hoping to try creating an airbrushed image too!
I like the larger images on your blog … Lisa is a smart lady!
Check out drawing the motmot blog for some interesting drawings and ideas on drawing birds.
Then move south, for gosh sakes can’t you see that is snow out there?
Read my entry “Ahh! That’s Better” … Paul is from FL and said he’s freezing. Do you think I really want to move to a place without any chance to use my fireplace?!!!
I like Drawing the Motmot too. She’s a fabulous “bird” artist and teacher!
